Tracking Your Journey: The Colorado Rail Game Inventory System

Blake |

We're excited to pull back the curtain on a key system we've been developing that will be a constant companion for players: the Inventory System. This isn't just a basic menu; it's a dynamic organizer designed to help you manage the various aspects of your life on the rails.

  1. Sustaining Your Health and Happiness: This is where you'll organize the food and drinks you acquire during your journey.

  2. Organizing Your Adventure: Found an interesting local brochure at a station or landmark? The inventory will keep all your informational flyers neatly arranged.

  3. Treasuring Your Memories: A dedicated space to view and collect the unique souvenirs you buy at gift shops along the way.

Food & Health: More Than Just a Snack

A key part of the train experience is what you eat, and we want that to be reflected in your gameplay. Your food inventory will directly impact your Health measurement. Not all snacks are created equal, though!

  • A simple beverage like a hot tea will provide a modest, slight increase to your health.

  • More substantial meals, such as a hotdog purchased from a vendor, will provide a significantly larger health boost.

This system encourages players to strategize not only what they eat but when they eat it, depending on the current needs of their character.

Souvenirs: Finding Hidden Happiness

While all your collected memorabilia will bring a smile, we've introduced a special mechanic for certain souvenirs.

We’ve determined that a small, select group of these items will provide a greater boost to the Happiness measurement than any other object in the game. But there's a catch—these particularly valuable, high-happiness souvenirs can only be discovered and obtained by interacting with other passengers on the train.

This mechanic encourages players to step outside their own cabin and engage with the world, rewarding those who are curious and social with unique items that make their character happier. It ties the souvenir-collecting aspect directly into the role-playing and social elements of the game!
